Presentation of the wiki skills project

Last modified by Anna Bauer on 2012/03/12 03:10
This document is meant to hold content for a common presentation that each partner could use during the introductory courses with their focus groups. This document is not the presentation per se but only the content. When the content is prepared (here, in this wiki-document by all partners) and ready it will be copied and arranged into a traditional presentation-program.

Abbreviation: Wiki skills = WS

Text in italics = help-text for the presenter, not to be shown in the presentation view

Goal and objectives

http://si0.twimg.com/profile_images/1808465766/logo_WS_color-High_-Twitter.pngWiki Skills is mainly funded by EU because if fits into the European strategy for education and culture. It is part of a, so called, Lifelong Learning Program.

Five bullet points starting with a very general goal, proceeding down to the practical objectives of the project:

  1. Promote creativity, competitiveness, employability and entrepreneurial spirit, equity, social cohesion and active citizenship
  2. Enable educational communities to contribute to the actual information society
  3. Develop a sustainable virtual community of practice among the different project countries
  4. To empower and foster wiki usage
  5. To develop training courses to strengthen wiki skills.

The project is run by a consortium of eight organizations from 5 European countries. The training courses will run in all these countries.

Methodology

In order to provide innovative pedagogical methodologies, the project will follow the following steps:

  • User needs analysis ‐ through a user‐centred approach, the consortium will identify the interests and needs of the different target, groups regarding the use of wiki in educational contexts.
  • Development of a pedagogical framework for enhancing collaborative learning through wikis in different lifelong learning sub‐programs (primary and secondary school, universities, profesional training and adult education).
  • Design of a training curriculum for both face-to‐face and online courses, and development of an online learning environment.
  • Teacher training and implementation ‐ the consortium will teach educators how to make the best use of wikis, and guide them in the design of their own wiki‐based learning scenarios. Scenarios will be implemented with students in real teaching contexts.
  • Evaluation of the project impact on the learning communities involved and validation of the approach.

Training courses to strengthen wiki skills

To avoid misunderstandings: There are two types of training courses to strengthen wiki skills:

  • Teach the teacher courses: Training courses arranged by the Wiki Skills project to help teachers and trainers (like you) to teach wiki skills to (your) students (that is, courses to enable teaching wiki skills)
  • Teach the students courses: Training courses where teachers and trainers (like you) teach wiki skills to (your) students (that is, courses to enable wiki skills)

Wiki Skills aims to help teachers and trainers already somewhat experienced with wikis in designing wiki-based learning scenarios, that they will implement in their teaching settings with their students. The consortium will provide support to teachers / trainers during the whole process of design and implementation of learning scenarios.

Our (the projects) target group are you – teachers and trainers with at least some previous experience of using wikis. Maybe you are a Wikipedia or Wikimedia user, maybe you have used wikis for other purposes. Anyhow, this way of cooperation and co-content making make you curious and eager to make something more out of it together with your students!

Teach the teacher courses

The teach the teacher courses are of three types:

  • Introductory (which you are attending now)
  • Face-to-face
  • Online

Image 2 = Image 1 but now with more details, also showing where the Introductory, face-to-face and online courses fit in:

The purpose with this introductory course is to pave the way for the coming face-to-face- and online courses. We hope that you will share your experience and knowledge and imagination with us today in order to get ideas and the basic structure for useful learning scenarios.
